Bible Hangman

A Bible word is hidden behind blank spaces. Choose a letter, and if it is in the word it appears in every spot where it belongs. If it is not, another part of the drawing is added. You can make six wrong guesses before the drawing is complete, so choose common letters like E, A and R first and save the rare ones for later.

Pick a category to change the kind of word: Bible people, Bible places, everyday Bible words, or the books of the Bible. Stuck? Tap "Show hint" for a short clue. On a computer you can type letters on your keyboard instead of tapping them.

The Books of the Bible category uses the names of all 66 books, from Genesis to Revelation. Numbers in a name, like the 1 in 1 Samuel, are already shown, so you only need to guess the letters. It is a friendly way for kids to get familiar with how each name is spelled. When you are ready to put the books in order, try the Books of the Bible game, or test what you know about one book with a Bible quiz for that book.

Show the screen to a group and let teams take turns choosing letters. Because every answer is a Bible person, place or word, each round is a quick chance to ask, "Who was this?" or "What happened here?" and tell the story behind the answer. Younger children can play with an adult reading the hint aloud, and older players can try the books category, where the names are longer.

Start with the vowels, since almost every word has at least one. Then guess common consonants such as R, N, S and T. Look at the number of blanks: short words are often Old Testament names, while long words are often places or Bible terms. Use the hint only when you need it, because guessing without it is more rewarding.
