The birth of Jesus is told in two Gospels. Luke begins with the angel Gabriel's visit to Mary in Nazareth, the census that took Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, the birth in a manger, the shepherds in the fields and Simeon and Anna in the temple. Matthew tells of Joseph's dream, the Magi who followed a star, King Herod's anger and the family's escape to Egypt. You can read both accounts in about ten minutes, in Luke 1 and 2 and Matthew 1 and 2.
After reading, test what you remember with the Nativity quiz. Notice who appears in which Gospel: shepherds in Luke, the Magi in Matthew. The Christmas Bible trivia goes further into the prophecies from Isaiah and Micah.
Ideas for Advent and Christmas Gatherings
Play one game each Sunday of Advent, or one each evening in the week before Christmas. Read a short passage from Luke 1 or 2, then play a puzzle that matches it. Children can try the kids quiz, while older players take on the crossword. At a church party, show the word search on a screen and let teams call out words as they spot them.
Games that need no preparation are easy to run: read the trivia questions aloud, give a point for each correct answer, and read the Bible reference in the note together.
