Books of the Bible Line-Up

The Bible is made of 66 books, written over many years by many people. There are 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.

Knowing the order of the books makes it easier to find any verse. This game turns that into a team challenge.

Verse to remember (2 Timothy 3:16): All Scripture is given by God and is useful for teaching.

1. Pick a small group of books to start, such as the Gospels and Acts: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts.
2. Give each player a book by whispering its name. Players do not show anyone else.
3. On "Go", players must put themselves in Bible order. They can only talk by asking "Do I come before you?"
4. When the team thinks it is in order, everyone says its book name from the first to the last.
5. The leader checks. The team scores 1 point for each correct run.
6. Swap books and try again, or move to a bigger group like the Law (Genesis to Deuteronomy).

How it ends: Finish by saying the five books of the Law or the four Gospels together. Praise every team for the teamwork.

Leader can say: “Knowing where the books are helps us read the Bible with confidence.”

For little ones: Use only three books, such as Genesis, Exodus and Matthew, or let little ones hold a card with a picture.

For teens and adults: Older players can play with 10 or more books, or race to say all 66 books in order as a team.

Safety: Walk gently when lining up and do not push. Give extra time to anyone who is unsure.

After the game, sit together and ask:

• Which book of the Bible is your favourite?
• How does knowing the order help you find a verse?
• Who wrote the book you were today?
