How to Play the Bible Letter Grid Game
The Bible Letter Grid Game is a word game. Press Start and you get a grid of letters. Tap letters that touch each other, across, down or diagonally, to spell a word. Each letter square can be used once in a word. When the word is ready, press Submit Word or the Enter key. If it is in our Bible word list, you score points: 1 for three letters, 2 for four, 3 for five, 5 for six and 8 for seven or more.
Tap the last letter again to undo it, or press Clear to start the word over. You have three minutes. Choose the 4x4 grid for a quick, easy round, or the 5x5 Classic grid for more words and a bigger challenge. When time runs out you see every word you missed.
What Counts as a Bible Word?
Our word list has more than 240 Bible words: people such as Moses and Ruth, places such as Bethel and Jericho, the names of books, and scripture terms such as grace, manna and covenant. Only words in the list score, so a plain English word that is not in the Bible will not count. That keeps every round about Scripture.

Why Word Grids Help You Learn Bible Names
Spotting names inside a grid makes you look closely at how they are spelled, and that helps with names that are easy to mix up, such as Nehemiah, Jericho or Gethsemane. It also works well in a group: one person calls out a word they found, and the others find the story behind it. Use it as a warm-up in Sunday school, a quiet challenge for early finishers, or a family game on a phone or tablet.
Like other word games on this site, it suits ages eight and up. For younger children try the Bible word search for kids.
Tips for Finding More Words
Start by looking for short names of three or four letters, then try to stretch them, for example from DAN to DANIEL. Look for common endings like -AH, -EL and -ITES, and for letter pairs such as TH, CH and SH. Look at every corner, since long words often run around the edge of the grid. If you like this kind of puzzle, try the Bible Word Scramble, Bible Hangman or the Bible Word Search.
