David and Goliath Giant Steps
One player is the giant. Everyone else is David and tries to creep close and win. No supplies needed.
The Bible Story
Goliath was a huge soldier who frightened the whole army of Israel. A young shepherd boy named David was not afraid. He trusted God, picked up a sling and five smooth stones, and God helped him win.
The story shows that God can help small people with big problems. This game lets everyone feel what it is like to be small and brave.
Verse to remember (1 Samuel 17:45): David told the giant that he came in the name of the Lord. David trusted God, not his own strength.
How to Play
- Choose one player to be Goliath. Goliath stands at one end with his or her back to the group.
- Everyone else is David. They line up at the other end of the room.
- The leader asks a question about the story, for example "What was David's job?" (a shepherd). The first David to answer correctly takes one step forward.
- When Goliath says "I see you!" and turns around, everyone must freeze. Anyone who moves goes back to the start.
- Goliath turns back around and the game keeps going. Questions can be easy or hard, so every age gets a turn to answer.
- The first David to reach Goliath and tap a shoulder says "God is with me!" and becomes the next Goliath.
How it ends: Finish by saying together, "The battle belongs to the Lord." Ask the group what made David brave.
Leader can say: “David was small, but God was with him. Let's cheer for every brave person here.”
For Every Age
For little ones: Let little ones answer with a simple word like "sheep" or "stone", or let them take a step for just trying.
For teens and adults: Older players can answer harder questions, such as who the king was (Saul) or how many stones David picked up (five).
Safety: Walk, do not run, and tap shoulders gently. Play on a clear floor with no chairs in the way.
Talk About It
After the game, sit together and ask:
- What do you think David felt when he saw Goliath?
- Who helps you when you feel small?
- What big thing can we ask God to help with?
