The Bible Story

On the first Easter morning, some women went to the tomb where Jesus had been laid. They found the stone rolled away and an angel told them that Jesus had risen. They hurried to tell the others.

The story moves from sadness to joy. This game lets everyone follow that path together.

Verse to remember (Luke 24:6): The angel said that Jesus is not here, because he has risen.

How to Play

  1. Line up at one wall. The leader says it is early morning and the group is sad, walking slowly with heads down.
  2. Walk quietly to the far side. The leader says "The stone is rolled away!" and everyone gasps.
  3. An angel (a volunteer) says, "He is not here. He is risen!"
  4. Everyone cheers and runs back to the start (carefully) saying "He is risen!"
  5. Repeat, and give another person the angel role.
  6. At the end, everyone says together, "He is risen indeed!"

How it ends: Sit down and ask how the mood changed from the start of the game. Share why this news matters to your church.

Leader can say: “The sad morning became the happiest news of all.”

For Every Age

For little ones: Let little ones walk slowly and whisper at the start. The cheer at the end is the best part for them.

For teens and adults: Older players can read Luke 24:1-12 aloud, and talk about the doubts the disciples felt and how they changed.

Safety: Run only when the leader says to, and keep to the same direction. Make sure the far wall is clear.

Talk About It

After the game, sit together and ask:

  • How did the women feel at the start and the end?
  • Why was the news hard to believe?
  • Who do you want to tell the good news?
