Fruit of the Spirit Action Game

The apostle Paul wrote that God's Spirit helps people grow good fruit in their lives. The nine fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Fruit grows slowly. This game helps us picture each fruit by acting it out, so that the words become real actions.

Verse to remember (Galatians 5:22-23): The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

1. Teach the nine fruits together. Say them slowly while the group repeats each one.
2. Pick an action for each fruit with the group. For example: love is a hug-yourself, joy is a jump, peace is a calm breath, patience is waiting still.
3. The leader calls out a fruit and everyone does its action for five seconds.
4. Speed up the game. The leader calls fruits faster and faster.
5. Mix it up by choosing a player to lead for a few rounds.
6. Finish with a slow round where each person says one way to show a fruit this week.

How it ends: Ask which fruit is hardest to grow and which is easiest. Remind everyone that God helps us grow.

Leader can say: “Fruit grows a little each day. Let's ask God to help us grow too.”

For little ones: Use only three fruits at first: love, joy and peace. Let little ones copy the leader.

For teens and adults: Teens and adults can name a real-life moment that needs each fruit, such as patience in traffic or self-control with a phone.

Safety: Keep jumping gentle and leave space between players. Skip any action that feels uncomfortable.

After the game, sit together and ask:

• Which fruit do you want more of this week?
• When is patience hardest for you?
• How can we show kindness to someone today?
