Gideon Trumpets and Jars Game
A small team surrounds the room in the dark, then trumpets and a shout show that God wins. No supplies needed.
The Bible Story
God asked Gideon to lead a small group of just three hundred men against a huge army. Gideon gave each man a trumpet, a jar and a torch. At night they surrounded the camp, blew their trumpets and broke their jars. The enemy panicked, and God gave the win.
The story shows that God does not need a big team to do something great. This game helps everyone feel part of a small team with a big God.
Verse to remember (Judges 7:20): The men blew their trumpets and shouted that the sword was for the Lord and for Gideon.
How to Play
- Choose a small team of about ten players to be Gideon's men. The rest of the group sit in the middle as the camp.
- The team spreads along the walls and stands very still. If you like, dim the lights a little.
- The leader whispers "Wait for the signal". The team waits with pretend jars and torches.
- On the signal, the team blows pretend trumpets (a loud "toot"), and shouts "For the Lord and for Gideon!"
- The camp pretends to be surprised and everyone cheers.
- Swap teams and play again.
How it ends: Ask why God chose such a small team. Remind everyone that God can do great things with us.
Leader can say: “God wins when we trust him, even when we feel small.”
For Every Age
For little ones: Let little ones be in the camp and shout "toot" with the team. Keep the dim lights soft or skip them.
For teens and adults: Older players can read Judges 7 aloud and talk about why God asked Gideon to make his army smaller.
Safety: Keep the lights bright enough to see. Walk to places and do not run. Use pretend jars only, with nothing breakable.
Talk About It
After the game, sit together and ask:
- Why do you think God wanted a small army?
- How do you feel when a job seems too big?
- Who can help you with big jobs?
