6 to 30, in teams of 5 or 615 minutesA clear area for each team

The Bible Story

Joseph was the favourite son of Jacob. His brothers were jealous and sold him, and he was taken to Egypt. Many years later, God helped him become a leader in Egypt, and he saved many people during a famine, including his own family.

The story has many scenes, so it is perfect for a relay. Each player tells just one part, and together the group tells the whole story.

Verse to remember (Genesis 50:20): Joseph told his brothers that what they meant for harm, God meant for good.

How to Play

  1. Split into teams. The leader names six scenes in order: the coat, the dreams, the brothers sell Joseph, Egypt and prison, Pharaoh's dream, the family meets again.
  2. Each team gives one scene to each player. Players have two minutes to think about their scene in a quiet huddle.
  3. Teams tell the story by acting or speaking, one scene at a time, in order.
  4. The group cheers after each team finishes. The leader helps with any missing scene.
  5. Swap scenes among teammates and play again if time allows.
  6. End together by saying the verse about God turning harm into good.

How it ends: Ask which scene was the hardest for Joseph and which one shows God's help the most.

Leader can say: “Even when things look bad, God can bring good out of them.”

For Every Age

For little ones: Let little ones act the dreams or the coat in a simple scene with a helper, with just actions and no talking.

For teens and adults: Older players can read parts of Genesis 37-45 aloud and discuss forgiveness, jealousy and trust.

Safety: Keep the acting of the brothers gentle and never act out violence. Nobody is forced to speak.

Talk About It

After the game, sit together and ask:

  • How do you think Joseph felt in prison?
  • Why was it hard for Joseph to forgive his brothers?
  • When has something bad turned into something good for you?
